In 2010, MHHS:
- Celebrated our 123rd year
- Found homes for over 3,500 orphaned animals
- Found homes for 518 animals at our satellite adoption centers located at the PetSmart stores in Glenmont and Latham
- Spayed or neutered every dog, cat and rabbit prior to adoption - over 2,500 for adoption and over 350 for low-income families
- Treated over 1,000 sick animals that were subsequently adopted
- Was selected to be one of only 50 national organizations to participate in the ASPCA's "Save More Lives" Challenge during August, September and October
- Seized over 280 animals as the result of 75 cruelty investigations
- Had its Safe Haven program house more than 20 pets for an average of 4 months for domestic violence victims while their owners were in women's shelters
- Delivered Humane Education programs and conducted shelter tours for over 1,500 students in elementary and middle school classes, Girl Scouts troops, and other youth and adult organizations
- Partnered with local food pantries to provide food to the pets of people in need
- Had over 500 active volunteers, many of whom sorted over 500,000 bottles and cans to raise money for the animals
- Cared for over 1,000 animals in volunteer foster homes
- Had volunteers who worked 24,600+ hours caring for animals at the shelter and at off-site events
- Distributed monthly e-newsletters to over 6,600 people
- Distributed quarterly print newsletters to over 13,000 people
- Served as a partner in the Albany-Rensselaer County Disaster Preparedness Program
